Hey everyone! What is this… another author appreciation installment… and so soon? Well folks, the author’s a good one! Its…André Aciman!
My last two blog posts were on amazing books that he wrote, so I thought it’d be a great idea to shine the spotlight on him this week.
The first time I came across Call Me By Your Name (the first novel of his I read) was after watching the trailer for the film in 2017. I didn’t know they based it on a book until shortly afterwards. I was floored by his writing style and further did some research on his other work. As you can imagine, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the sequel, Find Me. I was fortunate to receive it as a Christmas gift this past year. (Thanks, little sis!)
Enigma Variations became the second title I decided to check out a few months later. To give you all a snippet, it tells a story about a man, who falls deeply in love with several individuals during the course of his life and really focuses on how each person impacts him. I find his character very inspirational as he never gives up on love, despite his various relationships enduring difficult times as well as eventually falling through.
I remember hearing once that “art imitates life.” To say that André Aciman has been able and continues to accurately imitate life, especially pertaining to romance, in his prose would be a huge understatement. His talent is truly exceptional. If you haven’t come across Aciman before, I hope you give him a shot and will think so too. I look forward to what Aciman has in store for his future masterpieces.
